Stonington Institute, a division of one of the nation’s largest and most respected hospital companies, Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS), has an immediate opening for a full-time Safety Officer.

Stonington Institute is committed to providing quality substance abuse treatment options for adults in Southeastern Connecticut and surrounding areas.  We offer medical detox as well as residential addictions treatment for active duty and retired military service members in our North Stonington location.  Our clinic in Groton, CT, offers partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient treatment, and is conveniently located across the street from The Inn at Trails Corner, a new 180 bed dormitory-style sober community for adult men and women who attend our outpatient day treatment programs. The Inn offers overnight accommodations, full-meal service, indoor/outdoor recreation options, a workout room, and computer center for all clients. We accept private insurance, state-funded plans and self-pay arrangements.

Safety Officer Essential Responsibilities:

• Receives all incoming deliveries (except dietary dept. food). Searches all drop-offs for clients, secures contraband and prepares for distribution during mail call.  Distributes business deliveries as appropriate.
• Verbally interacts with clients requesting access to building during program day; ensures clients return to designated location via communication with Safety Officers at PHP/IOP.
• Completes documentation as required (i.e., HPRs) for incidents occurring during the shift, contraband (items found, location, in whose possession, location of confiscated items).
• Serves as backup to Facility Attendant for clients admitting during morning hours, as follows:
  • Greets clients arriving for admissions, collects contraband, completes valuables envelope. Searches guest belongings and removes additional contraband. Places all clothing/fabric in dryer for minimum 20 minutes on high heat.  Bags and labels belongings and transfers to dorm or storage room, as appropriate.
  • Organizes, stores, and labels all extra guest luggage, belongings, and all confiscated items.
  • Ensures belongings for discharging clients are packed/accounted for and in designated location prior to discharge.
• Conducts mail call Monday through Friday between 3:00 and 3:30 pm, distributing packages and mail that have been determined after search to be free of contraband and food products.

Safety Officer Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent. Valid driver’s license required; Public Service License qualification or other DMV-issued passenger endorsement preferred.  Must have and maintain a driving history that meets policy standards.
